A lovely little park
What a tree-mendous effort!
Lots of amazing volunteers came along last week to plant 13 new trees in Patna Dog Park and they look great!
11 new Austrian pines to replace the missing pines in the circle and 2 new cherries near the gate. It was hard going, the ground conditions were tricky and the pine trees were heavy but that didn't stop all the amazing volunteers! Powered by tea and pasties, there was also a bit of extra work than normal since we decided to go for extra big tree guards and 3 stakes, rather than 2, to try and keep the dogs (and their pee) away from the young trees, since this lovely little park is predominantly used by dog walkers. Unfortunately, the internal, secure fence was removed a few years ago, and not replaced. It was a valuable asset to the local community. We couldn't replace the fence (since we do trees) but we hope that the new planting demonstrates an investment in this popular little park.
Big thanks to all the volunteers, including the Tree Wardens, the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest (PSDCF) team who came along to help and Paul Wood who was able to help, before he caught his train home!
This project was made possible by funding from the PSDCF which includes watering for 3 years to help them establish.
