A great turn out!

Inspecting the dead tree

Mycorrhizal fungi powder rubbed into the roots of the new tree

Putting in the new stake

The new tree was surrounded by cardboard and mulched with wood chippings

The dead tree was repurposed as a stake

A job well done!

Meanwhile, merrily mulching away
What a wonderful turn out of volunteer tree wardens we had last Friday for our group session.
The weather was perfect for the group of 14 who managed to get loads done. We split into 2 teams, 1 to mulch and prune the trees along Jubilee Row and in the Family Tree Field while the other group got to work replacing a Horse Chestnut in the avenue near the Meadow Café. The original tree had sadly died due to a dog attack which had ring barked it.
To give the new tree the best chance before planting it we loosened the roots and rubbed them with mycorrhizal fungi powder, installed a new stake and gave it a good covering of mulch.
While tree wardens often work on their own (or in pairs) in the area where they live, all tree wardens are invited to a group session every three weeks to help in areas that need a few more hands. If you think you would like to join as a tree warden and join in on these group sessions, then please get in touch! Also, if you would like to help the young Horse Chestnut establish and you are local to Central Park, it will need watering in hot weather.
