Earlier this year, Arboriculturalist and Plymouth Tree People trustee Matt Underwood applied to the University of Plymouth to fund a project to survey all the trees planted by PTP over the years to see how well they are doing and happily, his application was successful!
The funding is part of the Get Involved Awards which see successful applicants from community groups, charities and social enterprises able to work with University of Plymouth’s researchers, to better understand a problem in their local area and to gain valuable insights. By developing new projects, the aim is to build a network of community groups working with academics to exchange ideas and respond to real community challenges in Plymouth.
Recently, we invited people to help us do the surveys and we ran a training session at Cafe Momus and Adelaide Park.
Thank you so much to Matt and Sophie from the University for running the scheme and the training. And of course, thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help. If you would like to help but haven't got in touch yet, then it's not too late. You can team up with someone who has done the training to learn what to do and then choose the areas of trees you would like to survey. Just email Matt at matt.underwood@plymouthtrees.org
