Plymouth Tree People were asked by residents of Torr Lane to help them replace a number of cherry trees which had died and been left as stumps for a number of years. The cherries were planted when the houses were built so probably around 100 years old. This was our fourth planting project on Torr Lane.
We identified 6 places new cherries could be planted and instructed Glendale to help with the removal of 2 stumps and branches from a standing dead tree, which could risk the health of a new tree planted close by.
With the help of volunteer Tree Wardens and local residents on a sunny day in March, we managed to plant the new trees and they look splendid. For more photos of the planting day, look at this post on our News page.
The new cherries are Prunus 'Tai-haku', which is the same as most of the other trees, so they will come into blossom at the same time.
This project was made possible with funding from the Plymouth & South Devon Community Forest.
